About the Holocaust Remembrance day.

In 2005, the United Nations General Assembly designated January 27th as the annual international day of remembrance to honor the victims of World War II. They chose the 27th because that was the day that Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest Nazi death camp was liberated. During World War II over 4 million Jews were killed, and 4-6 million non-Jews consisting of Roma (Gypsies); Soviet civilians, ethnic Poles, Jehovah’s Witnesses; the disabled; homosexuals; and political and religious opponents were also killed. It was a horrific time in our world’s history.
