More Bauble Cakes

Thursday, June 2

I couldn’t help making more of these cute little cakes. They really are so much fun to make and there are so many things you can do with them. If you missed my last post, I posted a tutorial on how to make them. You can check it out here. This post is to give some more ideas on what you can do with them. Enjoy and get creative!

For these cakes I used three shades of fondant, starting with the darker on the bottom and ended with the light on top. I felt it would be easier to mix the colors before hand rather than trying to paint the cake afterwards.

The base of these cakes start out the same way any bauble cake would start out. Get the instructions here. Then once you have the first layer of fondant on your cake you can make the magic happen. I used three sizes of tear drop fondant cutters to cover these cakes with. The last three layers use the smaller cutters.

Start at the bottom of the cake. For the first layer you will want to cut the tips of the tear drops off so that you have a nice clean line around the bottom of your cake. Attach the tear drops with a bit of water. Then all you have to do is add more layer by layer. When you get to the top you will want to switch to smaller tear drops so that they continue to sit side by side and not overlap each other.

That’s it! It’s that easy. You can add your own special touches to them to make them even better. I personally really like the Pineapple Cake.
