Grilled Turkey and Mozzarella Sandwich
This is my grown-up version of a grilled ham and cheese sandwich. I make it with turkey and not ham…but you can go either way. Not only does it taste wonderful but the colors make it look as good as it tastes.
The ingredient list is easy. I choose to use mesquite flavored turkey to give the sandwich a lot of flavor without adding the extra calories of a dressing, but any turkey will do.
Artisan Bread, Sliced
Mesquite Flavored Sliced Turkey
Fresh Mozzarella, Sliced
Fresh Spinach Leaves
Salt and Pepper
I start with artisan bread because of its crusty exterior and soft flavorful inside, and then just layer on the rest of the ingredients.
If you don’t mind your sandwiches being a little juicy, add the tomato slices as they are. But if you don’t want the extra juice you can cut the seeds out of the tomato before adding it.
Once it’s put together, butter it like you would a grilled cheese sandwich and grill it..
It’s a little tricky to flip since it will want to fall apart on you, but with a little care you can do it. I usually have to reassemble mine once I flip it.
If you are looking for a wine to pair up with this sandwich, my dear friends at WineTable have come up with some suggestions. Go check them out for pairing ideas for this recipe or for any other recipe you may be scrounging up for dinner tonight.
