Mixed Berry Crisp

This is a very delicious and simple berry crisp that is quick and easy to throw together. I also like it because you bake it frozen so it is easy to make ahead of time. You just keep it in the freezer until you are ready to make it.

It’s not overly sweet like a lot of crisp so you really get to enjoy all the flavors of the berries.

Filling

24-ounces of frozen mixed berries
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup flour
1 Tbl. fresh lemon juice

Topping

3/4 cup all purpose flour
3/4 cup  oats
2/3 cup packed brown sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. ginger
1/4 tsp.  nutmeg
1/4 tsp. salt
1 stick butter, softened and diced

Mix all of the filling ingredients in a large bowl. Toss well. Since the berries are frozen you will find that the flour will fall to the bottom of the bowl. That’s not a problem. Then pour the berry mixture to 9×13 baking dish dish.

Combine topping ingredients, except butter, in a medium bowl.  Mix well. Then add the butter. Mix until you have course crumbs. I usually have use my hands to get it to mix well.  Sprinkle the topping over berry mixture.

Bake the crisp in a 375°F oven for about an hour. The top will be golden brown and the berries will be bubbling when it is finished.  Let stand 15 minutes. Serve warm with ice cream!
