Stone Barn Pizza - Emmalee Elizabeth Design

Stone Barn Pizza

Monday, September 26

Last weekend I had the opportunity to take a road trip with my aunt and my mom to Nelson WI. for… you guessed it, PIZZA! I think this was the one and only time I have ever crossed state borders for no other reason than to eat pizza. And I must say, it was defiantly worth it!! The pizza was great, the sight seeing wonderful and the company couldn’t have been better.

My mom had read in a magazine at work about a old stone barn in Wisconsin that turned into a pizza joint at night.  She said it looked so good that she had to go and try it out. I’m glad we did.

With the backdrop of the Wisconsin river valley, the stone walls of the barn, and the wood-fire oven burning in the background, the Stone Barn makes for a charming and memorable evening. I would have gone for the ambience alone, but the real reason for going was the Pizza. It was delicious and definitely worth the drive.

All of their pizzas are made on a 17″ crust that resembles more of a flat bread than a traditional pizza crust. The toppings are piled high and they are baked to perfection in a wood-fire stone oven. Because the crust is so thin you are able to eat more than you think. We shared two 17″ square pizzas between the three of us and didn’t have any leftovers to bring home. I even witnessed numerous people eating a pizza all by themselves. It’s so good you could easily do it!

One of the pizzas we had was the GREEK : Gyros flavored lamb, vidalia onions, artichoke hearts, kalamata olives, feta cheese and oregano on a garlic olive oil base. It was beyond delicious. I would highly recommend it. But it also appears that you can’t go wrong with that ever you choose.

If you have a free night to take a drive, it is definitely work the trip out there. Unfortunately all trips will have to be postponed until next spring since the are now closed for the winter. Glad we got there when we did.

So I have to ask…Am I the only one crazy enough to drive hours to eat pizza?? Or do you guys have crazy indulgences worth driving for as well.
