If only I could take him home…

I love this shot for so many reasons. First, I think this is the cutest “cow” I have ever seen. Second, I love how he seemed to be waiting for me to take his picture. But mostly I love this picture because of what I had to do to get it.  It seems like every once in a while I get lucky and the perfect shot comes to me. But that doesn’t happen very often. Most of the time I have to go out and find it. This is one shot I had to go out and get…in heels of all things! My son and I were driving around in the country a few summers ago and I spotted this lone “cow” across a field. I think it was his need for a haircut that caught my attention and made me want to take his picture. The only problem was…

I was in a dress and heels, he was in a field a block away. But I couldn’t let that stop me. I had to get his picture. So I got out of my car, crossed the field filled with knee high grass, climbed over a small white fence and snapped this shot. And just as I did, I heard his owner yelling something at me which startled me, so I ran off…in heels, back across the field, over the fence and into my car and I took off. Now, I’m not recommending that you trespass here. But I am saying that sometimes you may have to cross over a few fences to get the shots you want and hopefully like my little cow they will be worth it. If not, you’ll have a good story to tell.

Just a side note….I’m not an expert on cows so I can’t tell if this little cow is a male or female. I think it is a highlander. And if my memory serves me right, both male and female highlander cows have horns. So for all the cow experts out there if I am calling this little girl a ‘he’ by accident let me know. I’d love to know if this cow is a little girl or boy.
